Queer Boxing 2024
Queer Boxing organised by Queer Amsterdam on Leidseplain, in the heart of Amsterdam
Showcasing multiple friendly boxing matches, and showing that queer people can have safe spaces to practice sports in general and specifically boxing.
📍Leidseplein, Amsterdam
Today we're fighting with each other and fighting back
The fights are between friends, sports partners, so the goal is not to go for a knockout but just to have fun fighting each other.
They wanted to show that boxing can be for everyone, and that it's a lot of fun! All of that without forgetting that they're creating a safe space for queer people to practice boxing, and showing that they will not stay silent against discriminations and will fight back an oppressive system!
Queer people should have a safe place to practice sports
Queer people can be especially vulnerable to discrimination in sports, and Boogieland and their coaches are organising free boxing lessons for queer people to have a safe space to practice. This boxing ring at Leidseplein in the middle of the city was a great spot to remind people around that queer people can also practice sports in a safe space.
